On March 31, 2026, NVIDIA announced a $2 billion strategic investment in Marvell Technology and a sweeping partnership built around NVLink Fusion — NVIDIA's rack-scale platform for connecting thousands of GPUs into coherent AI systems. On the surface, it looks like another big check from the company that writes them the biggest. Look closer, and it's something more significant: a public declaration that the next era of AI progress depends not on faster processors, but on faster connections between them [1]. The AI industry has spent three years fixated on compute. How many GPUs can you stack? How many floating-point operations per second? How big is your training cluster? Those questions still matter, but they're running into a physical wall. You can build a rack of 72 Blackwell GPUs. The problem is getting data between them fast enough that they aren't sitting idle waiting on each other.
